Theresa May will urge her party not to remove her as leader as she meets with senior Conservatives this morning amid loud calls for her to resign.
The prime minister will address the executive of the 1922 Committee and is likely to ask them not to change party rules to allow another vote of no confidence in her.
The executive is under pressure from Tory MPs to amend a rule that says such a vote can only be held once a year. Ms May saw off an attempt to oust her in December, meaning another vote cannot currently be held until December. Last month, the committee voted narrowly against a rule change but amid growing anger at her handling of Brexit, Ms May will need to convince them not to change their minds.
